Harvey Really Hit Home For My Family

September 26, 2017

Hurricane harvey, harvey relief, hurricane relief

I am not really sure how to start this post. I already have tears streaming down my face as I type. Hurricane Harvey really took my joy, as it did so many others. My pastor this past Sunday made it very clear that it’s okay for anyone to grieve during this time, and encouraged all of us to do so in a healthy manner to aid in us coming out of this on a better side rather than bitter. I think I am still in the beginning where I can’t totally gasp the reality of being impacted by the storm, but I am doing my best to acknowledge all my feels in a positive manner. Just know, no matter who you were impacted this storm is something we all need to process in a healthy way!

As a child who grew up in Houston, I have as they call it “rode out” every hurricane. We maybe lost power for a few hours through Allison, Ika, and Rita, but that was honestly the worst of it we ever experienced. We never had to worry about flooding and majority of the time just saw the storm as a vacation from school. Keep in mind we were kids! Fast forward to 2017, I am preparing my own home for water to enter (God kept the water at bay and we only lost my car due to Harvey) as I cry on the phone with my sister who has water bubbling through her floor that my mother is sleeping on.  You may wonder why my mother was sleeping or even sleeping on the floor of my sister’s home at a time like this. Well, she is a Houston Police Officer and had been working for 3 days straight when she returned home to her home flooding. She walked swiftly through waist deep water to my sister’s house a mile down the road to help her stack furniture and place valuables on the tops of her beds as the water was rising quickly. She was running on fumes from VERY little rest in between her three-day long shift and needed to lay down before she honestly passed out from exhaustion. This was in the middle of the night around 2:00 am. It was heart breaking to see my sister’s photo of our hero having to rest in this chaos. Luckily, a boat came to their aid 3 hours later to take them and 2 dogs back to my mother’s home. They went back there because it’s a two story home and was the closest place to go where they had an area that was dry for themselves and the fur babies.

Over the next days the water receded and planning and repairs began. Let’s just say, I think my older sister and I should start our own show on HGTV, Haha. *Side Note- If you know if anyone who needs help with the de-mudding process, send me an email because we would love to help!* We have learned so much throughout this flood process and are making plans for the future should it happen again. Neither myself, sister, or mother have flood insurance so this has been emotionally and financially devastating, BUT nowhere near what some have experienced. I ONLY lost my car in the flood but it seems so minor like losing a pair of jeans that it does not even bother me. I grieve daily for the amazing Texans who have lost absolutely everything they have ever owned!

I wanted to write this post to just tell y’all my experience, as well as let you know if you want a shoulder to cry on or an ear to listen to your loss I am your girl! I will bring the champagne if you bring the OJ. We will laugh, cry, and you will most definitely feel my support for you in this time of need! BUT there are also other needs I wanted to tell others about. You can donate your time, money, prayers, ect. Like I said before, we have never been a family who has been impacted from a hurricane or storm like this, so just trying to sort out all the feelings of everything can be a little tough. To help my depression with this tragic event, I found that giving back to others in need is the best therapy, and I figured HEY! you might want to as well and it might ease some of your pain too. Everyone has different gifts to help those who have been effected by this flood. For me, it’s my time and physical ability to clean out the terrible that Harvey left behind. I wish it was more monetary gifts, but I want to help my mother the best I can with for now. BUT I can definitely use my voice to ask those who want to give monetarily to help me raise money for hurricane funds I have felt really passionate about. Again, we ALL have a talent and can help people recover in some special way. Let me tell you what, if I was a better cook I would make many meals for people. But the last thing anyone needs is my terrible cooking in a time when they need something homemade and TASTY, lol. So here below are listed funds you give to OR volunteer for regarding Hurricane Harvey’s devastation. I promise, these are all wonderful and verified places!

My Favorites For Sending Your Hard Earned Funds && Time To Those In Need:

If you would like to donate directly to my mother’s home repairs you can do so here (this is only a fraction of what she needs, but this will help her with the new appliances she has to replace): Momma’s Flood Fund

For our those just like my mother who were out saving others and came home to flood waters in their homes and their belongings gone: HPOU- Assist the Officer, Houston Texas

Helping via donations, your time and talents, or simply praying with someone in need: KSBJ Harvey Relief

For those fur babies who need our help and love too: Pet- Hurricane Harvey Relief

Needing those Pampers for sweet little ones: Texas Diaper Bank

JJ Watt- Huricane Harvey Flood Relief

I would love to hear how you and your family made it through the storm, please comment below so I can send some love your way. Also, if you’re not from the areas impacted and want other information on how to help, comment below or send me an email and I will definitely send you lots of other information!

Baby Got Back & A Top Bun

September 21, 2017

varsity bomber jacket, sneaker style, casual fashiontop bun, purple hairsweatshirt dress, faux leather jacket, casual fall stylefall fashion, casual fashionhouston blogger, style blog, fashion blogger, bomber jacket, nordstrom

Okay, let me just be as real as I can be right now. I don’t always love my curves. I play the comparison game just as much as anyone, especially in the world of blogging. I typically see other gorgeous gals that look flawless in there #ootd Instagram shot without having to worry about things like… my hips, thighs, cellulite and booty for days. And don’t for one second think I am not thankful to be who I am because I do TRULY love my curves. But I am human, and there are days when I get caught up in that game of “I wish I was that fit.” or “I wish I could wear that look so well without the added hips.”. Needless to say, my older sister is truly an inspiration to me and pulls me out of the hole when I start to fall in it. She is gorgeous, but has struggled with the very same things I have, and yet she rocks her bodysuits like there is no tomorrow. She is a total boss babe about loving her curves, and it was definitely something she has had to work at emotionally. I am on the body loving, curves ain’t going no where train.. BUT I do try everyday to be a healthy and fit person. This doesn’t mean my curves go anywhere (because they do NOT), they just become more toned and less fatty tissue based.

*Hint, Hint, there are bodysuit looks coming to the blog SOON*

And before you go thinking, “I really don’t care to hear about your body imagine problems, you twig!” I’m simply just putting this out there… LOVE YOURSELF and ALLLLLL YOUR CURVES. My husband thankfully, loves my curves and influences me to love them as well. And like I said before I do love who I am, but I do have those days where I get caught up in the world of comparison. Annnnd ain’t nobody got time for that! But we do have time to dance like no one is watching while drinking more champagne than we need to. I hope the one thing you take away from this post is that even if you are slightly iffy on wearing something because you have more curves than the person who inspired you to purchase it.. go for it! You can style confidence for any season and any trend. It’s the biggest bang for your buck. I am all about comfort when it comes to my usual day to day, and even though I am slightly more hippy than this dress would like me to be, I still wear every inch of it with a smile and top bun. And if for some reason there are those who don’t agree with my body positive mindset, well… don’t let my confidence smack ya as I walk on past ya! See what I did there, hahaha.

Happy Thursday Babes! I have a VERY personal post coming for you next week that I will need all your support to not cry when hitting post. Until then, cheers to the weekend!

Oversized Fall Sweater

September 19, 2017

lace up sweater, off the shoulder fashion, fall stylefall sweater, women's booties, denim shortstopshop sweater, lattice sweater, nordstromfashion blogger, style blog, houston bloggerfall fashion, sweater style, oversized sweater

Sweater: TopShop // Shorts: Abercrombie & Fitch // Booties: Nordstrom // Tote

I have been DYING to share this sweater with y’all. It’s seriously what fall sweater dreams are made of. Especially when it’s not lower than 50 degrees outside! Because we aren’t having consistently cool weather here in Houston, the hubs keeps giving me heck over trying to wear this in 85 degree weather. But I can’t help it.. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this oversized sweater! And I know some of you may be thinking “Sarah, this yellow is a bit much for me”, no worries babe because it also comes in this gorgeous ivory with the same back lace up detail. I do however suggest you size down one size to help with the perfect oversized fit.

For fall in our warmer city, this sweater is perfect to pair with your favorite denim shorts and booties. But you can always flip the script and go for a midi skirt and heels for a dressier date night look. Yep.. it’s that versatile! You’re probably over me raving about this gorgeousness so I’ll let you just click here to snag yours while they’re fully in stock and under $70.

Happy Tuesday Shoesday, lovely!

Cardigan Living for Fall

September 12, 2017

tattered denim, distressed denim, denim cropfashion blog, style blog, houston blogger, houston fashionfall cardigan, transitional style, halogen, style bloggercasual style, fall fashion, sweater, basic teered cardigan, nordstrom, pocket teefall style, cardigan style, fall outfitphotography by: C Wright Photography

From Cardigans to scarves, Fall is upon us! Now that Hurricane Harvey Recovery efforts are in place (more on that in a later post) I have been letting myself have some time to indulge in New York Fashion Week fabulousness. Seeing all my fellow blogger babes in the big apple enjoying even more fall weather than we currently have here in Houston just gives me all the feels.

Cardigans are my jam for fall, and I think they should be yours too. They give you that extra statement with added comfort. So it’s a Win Win all the way around. You will be noticing more and more of these here on the blog as we enter into October. I’ll give you a sneak peak… I just snagged the FAVORITE TopShop cardigan from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, but it’s the dupe version that is under $25. I will be styling it soon for you so be sure to check back in the coming weeks. Now back to this beauty, it comes in 5 other great colors if you want to not be so spicy in this red number. It’s currently under $70 and great for pairing with a long sleeve tee like I did here for added warmth, or even with a great cami for those sunny days. Houston’s Fall/Winter weather tends to be on the light side so I have been stalking up on pieces that are great for our falls, but can be layered for those colder states as well. (For sizing reference: size one size down)

Until later this week, stay fabulous and enjoy the pre-fall weather!

1st Year of Blogging & a BIG Thank You

August 24, 2017

satin top, satin button down, velvet heels, distressed denimblogger, blogging, lifestyle blog

It’s been a year! I can finally say Happy Blogiversary to Gracefully Sassy. NONE of this would have been possible without you. I am more thankful than I could ever say for each and everyone of your support. Starting my blog was a long time goal/dream of mine. I started this little space of glitter to share my life through fashion with you. I have always felt that if I help just one person, even in some small way, then it was ALL worth it!

blogiversary, 1st year of blogging, fashion blogfashion blogger, style blog, houston blogger, blogging tips, bloggercharming charlie, clutch

To be honest, I am shocked at how many people enjoy this little blog of mine. My grammer is, well… not the top of the English charts. I try to write like I talk so that you really feel like we’re having a verbal conversation. If you have met me then you know, I am a talker! And I am a passionate person so when I am excited about something I am talking ninety miles a minute with my hands flaring and more facial expressions than most people use in a month. I do all this in a matter of minutes, haha! I also learn from you. There are many things I would have not known without ever starting this blog. So again, THANK YOU! Below are three things I have learned in this first year that I feel like were the big lessons learned.

  1. Be yourself. Find your niche, and stay true to that! It’s easy to want to mimic the other more successful bloggers, but you are the only you there ever was and that is what you need to highlight. This is something that goes for everyone in everyday life, not just blogger world.
  2. PATIENCE is a VIRTUE. Hahaha, I laugh just typing that. I am a pretty impatient person which is not beneficial in the blogging world. But, I am learning that this is a marathon and not a sprint. And even more so when I get amazing feedback from you when you absolutely love the purchase you received from a look I posted on. Or you felt like you’re not alone in the struggle you face when I get all sorts of personal. YOU make blogging worth it, THANK YOU.
  3. Budget Better Babe! Story of my life = blowing a budget. I am getting better, so patting myself on the back for that. With that being said, I still have a long way to go. Being a Fashion & Lifestyle Blogger makes it very difficult not to just go buck wild snatching all the latest trends and styling them for your viewing pleasure here on the blog. I get so excited to show you things and then realize… I have a mortgage payment and have to eat sooooo, shoes and that fab suede motorcycle jacket can just stay at the store. Please, Please know that my intentions are good but, I haven’t won the lottery so I’ll be helping you style all your closet pieces to have you being a fashionista through ALL seasons.

And with me still sending you all the love for your support, It would mean so much that you let me know what you would like to see more of AND less of here over this next year. I am allllllll ears so send ’em babe! I promise to giveback to you for your help this coming Holiday season in a wonderful way *hint- giveaways*.
